As a small business owner, you already know that social media is a great tool to drive more traffic to your website, but are you struggling to see it work for your business?

Take a look at our tips below to discover how you can use social media to drive more people to your website.

Choose Your Channels Carefully

Don’t try to be everywhere in order to be relevant’. Social media is time and labour intensive, so you don’t want to waste your time on platforms your buyers aren’t using?

To identify which channels are relevant to your buyers, take the time to understand your buyers; who they are, what is their need or challenge that you can help with, where do they hang out online, and who do they trust.  Even socio-demographic factors are great clues to finding out which channels deserve more effort.

Be Part Of The Conversation

It isn’t enough to just publish regular post to your social media profiles, you need to engage with your audience as well. To encourage engagement posts questions to start a conversion about a particular post you have just shared. Also,  never forget to answer their comments and or acknowledge their retweets or shares of your articles.

Promote Your Content On Social Media More Than Once

Once you have published a blog article don’t just promote it through your social media channels the one time. Because people are online at different times of the day it’s possible your posts could become buried in people’s timelines and feeds. If your content is evergreen (not timely, still relevant) promote it on different days and different times with different messages. Our recommendation is to promote it 4 times within the first week of publishing (always with a different message), then weekly for the next 4-5 weeks.

Weave ‘Power Words’ Into Your Posts

Crisp, snappy copy can be the difference between a prospective customer scrolling past your post and clicking through to your website. Verbs, active voice and emotive language are great ways to get people to respond to your call to action.

Looking for a place to start? Here is a handy list of words and phrases that are scientifically proven to boost engagement and inspire action:

  • Facebook: deal, funny, where, discount, inspire, submit, warn
  • LinkedIn: improve(d), productivity, develop(ed), research(ed), reduce(d)
  • Twitter: retweet/RT, help, social media, blog post, check out
  • Google+: promote, discover, share, increase

Also, don’t forget to add relevant hashtags next to the keywords above.

Use Photos In Your Posts

As the old saying goes: a picture is worth one thousand words. In the case of social media, they could be worth one thousand dollars. According to Buffer, posts with photos get 84% more link click-throughs than posts with no photos. That’s 84% more people landing on your website. Worried that you have nowhere to get quality images from? Use Canva to design your own or Infogr.am for stunning infographics. Bonus: they’re both free!
